Dumfries Museum is located on the west side of the River Nith in Maxwelltown. It is open all year round on Tuesdays-Saturdays. Access is free.

Dumfries Museum

 

The museum has a few old artefacts associated with the Covenanters, detailed below. In the grounds of the museum are fragments of sandstone gravestones, originally located in St Michael's Churchyard, Dumfries. These were replaced with later replicas. Also in the grounds is a rotunda in which the statues of Robert Paterson ('Old Mortality') and his horse are kept. 

 

Rev James Renwick's Spoon

A wooden spoon said to have belonged to Rev James Renwick.

 

Sword

A sword associated with the Covenanters.

 

Rev William Veitch's Portrait

An oil portrait of Rev William Veitch, minister of St Michael's Church, Dumfries, and a Covenanting minister. He is buired in St Michael's Churchyard.
