Whig's Hole of Barholm

The Whig's Hole is the name of a coastal cave on the cliffs of the Heughs of Barholm. The cave is named on the 1st Edition of the Ordnance Survey map (1895, shown here). It is believed that Covenanters used the cave as a hideout. The entrance to the cave is small, and difficult to access. Local tales tell how the soldiers searching for the Covenanters often passed the cave and were unable to find it.
