John Steel's Sword

This sword was been passed down to the present owner, Hugh Steele (pictured), by his aunt and uncle, who were the last Steeles to live in Logan Waterhead, the home of Captain John Steel, the hero Covenanter. The sword was apparently found hidden in the farmhouse. John Steel fought at Bothwell Bridge, where his father was killed, but he survived the Killing Times and went on to serve in the first regiment of the Cameronians before retiring to the farm.
