Robert Buntine and James Blackwood's Memorial

This headstone commemorates two Covenanters who were associated with the parish of Fenwick.

Robert Buntine was capturd by the dragoons at the Battle of Rullion Green and was executed in Glasgow on 19 December 1666 with three others. A memorial to them can also be seen in Glasgow Cathedral (where he is named as Robert Bunton).

James Blackwood was captured after the Battle of Rullion Green and was sentenced to be executed in Irvine, which took place on 31 December 1666. He is buried in the old kirkyard in Irvine, where a table-tomb commemorates both him and John MacCall.
