The plaque commemorating Archibald Stewart of Underbank and James Muir of Crossford Boat was unveiled on Saturday 23 March 2024 by Margaret Carr, nee Muir, who may be a descendant of James Muir, and Rev Steven Reid. The plaque was funded by Crossford Parish Church and the Scottish Covenanter Memorials Association

Underbank was a small farm located at NS 831456. Crossford Boat was located at NS 828467.

Archibald Stewart of Underbank and James Muir of Crossford Boat

 

Archibald Stewart lived at Underbank, which is located about half a mile upstream from Crossford. He was executed at Glasgow Cross on 19 March 1684. Read more.

James Muir lived at Crossford Boat, which was located at the corner of Holm Road, and which had been a ferry prior to the erection of the bridge. He was executed at the Grassmarket, Edinburgh, 1684.
