John Rankin was drowned at Deerness in Orkney in November 1679. 

Rev John Reid AM was the curate in Biggar kirk from 1685 until 1688. At the Glorious Revolution he was rabbled by the congregation - his fringed gown was torn off and trampled underfoot. The congregation marched him through the High Street to the boundary of the parish where he was warned not to return again.
